Quick Steamed Squash and Our Favorite Vegetable Seasoning
Steamed vegetables are a side item we have almost every meal. It takes little to no prep, and cooks quickly, especially with a pressure cooker or the convenient steamer bags many frozen vegetables come in. But what if you have fresh produce and no pressure cooker or your in a time crunch?
That’s how I figured out I could have steamed squash ready in as little as 3 minutes. Yeah, you read that right. The best part? You probably already have everything you need to do it. No fancy steamer baskets or venting containers, only a microwave safe container deep enough to hold what you need cooked.
Ingredients:
2 medium zucchini, chopped (we want thick pieces, as shown below, so the squash doesn’t get too soft)
3 tbsp water
1/2 – 3/4 tsp Adobo All Purpose seasoning
Directions:
Chop zucchini or yellow squash into thick chunks. Place in microwaveable safe container with 3 tbsp. of water. Microwave for 3 mins or until you’ve reached your preferred texture.
Remove container from microwave and drain. Season with 1/2-3/4 tsp adobo seasoning and mix. Ready to serve.
I’ve found this method works great on broccoli and cauliflower as well, though I cook those closer to the 5 min mark. As far as our favorite all purpose seasoning blend? We use it on all the vegetables I’ve already mentioned, as well as green beans.
Let me know if you’ve already discovered this microwave trick yourself, or what your go to seasoning is for vegetable sides.
